Nicodemi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Le Murate 2021

Current generation siblings Elena and Alessandro Nicodemi left their professions in Rome to take over the winery started by their father, Bruno, after his passing. Elena focuses on sales and oversees wine production. For those that appreciate traditional methods, then you can’t fault this classic wine. Extremely solid wine is the result of a mix of old vine Montepulciano and younger vines planted to narrowly spaced modern row trellising. Aged in French oak, this wine is the classic expression of Montepulciano.

Tasting Notes: A juniper infused blueberry character in a superbly elegant version of this deeply coloured variety. Impressive volume and length on the nose, with emphatic notes of wild red berry fruit. The palate shows admirable balance, full-fruited aromas, and supple tannins.

Pairing: Pair this superb red wine with your favourite meat or pasta dishes, think pasta all'matriciana, lasagna, bolognese or ragu sausage. A good aged cheese will be just as fine to me. This is an end of week vino and it is comforting. It will warm up your soul.
