Why we chose this wine

From the wild, granite-strewn hills of northern Sardinia comes Amur a red that drinks like a warm Mediterranean evening. Made from Muristellu (known locally as Bovale Sardo), one of the island's most expressive indigenous varieties, this is the work of Daniela Pinna owner and winemaker at Tenute Olbios, one of the rare people who oversees everything from pruning to bottling herself.

Bright red cherry, wild berry and a gentle herbal lift. No heavy oak, no pretension just clean fruit, fine tannins and that unmistakable savoury Mediterranean finish. It's honest, expressive, and quietly brilliant at the table.

We were lucky enough to have Daniela join us for a wine dinner here at Carne & Cucina and sitting with her, hearing her talk about her vines and her island, made this wine even more special.

About Daniela

Daniela Pinna co-founded Tenute Olbios over twenty years ago alongside her husband David Mele, challenging conventions from the very beginning. In Sardinia the land of cork she made the bold decision to seal her flagship Vermentino di Gallura DOCG with a glass stopper. Many questioned it. Today, that wine, Lupus, is recognised as one of the finest expressions of Vermentino di Gallura in existence.

A winemaker and agronomist, Daniela oversees every step from vineyard to bottle and served as long-standing president of the Vermentino di Gallura DOCG Consorzio. She is as much guardian of Sardinian wine culture as she is its quiet revolutionary.
