Why we chose this wine
Why I chose this wine
Tenuta Mazzolino Terrazze Pinot Nero 2024 captures the lighter and more graceful side of Italian red wine.
It is delicate without feeling simple, offering clear fruit, fresh acidity and a silky texture. This is the kind of Pinot Nero that works beautifully at the table and remains wonderfully easy to enjoy.
From the hills of Pavia
Tenuta Mazzolino is located at Corvino San Quirico in the rolling hills of Oltrepò Pavese, an important Italian region for Pinot Nero.
The grapes come from vineyards surrounding the estate, planted on clay and silt soils at approximately 200 metres above sea level. The gentle hills, varied exposures and cooling air help preserve fragrance, acidity and elegance.
What does it taste like
The wine has a bright and translucent ruby colour. The nose opens with wild strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant and sour cherry, followed by rose petals, pomegranate, white pepper and gentle earthy notes.
The palate is fresh and supple, with silky tannins and lively acidity. Red fruit remains at the centre, supported by subtle spice, minerals and a softly savoury finish.
How is it made
Terrazze is produced entirely from Pinot Nero. The grapes are destemmed before fermentation, with a gentle cold maceration and careful extraction to preserve perfume and freshness. The wine matures in stainless steel for approximately 12 months, allowing the pure character of the fruit to remain clear and vibrant.
What to serve with it
This is a versatile Pinot Nero that pairs beautifully with mushroom pasta, roast chicken, duck, pork, veal, seared salmon, tuna, charcuterie and medium aged cheeses. Its freshness also makes it an excellent choice for dishes that would feel overwhelmed by a heavier red.
Serve at 14 to 16°C. A short period of air before serving will help the perfume open in the glass.
