Why we chose this wine
This is a wine made for the table, expressive, grounded and full of quiet energy. From Bernard Métrat, one of Morgon’s most respected growers, Terre d’Alizarine comes from old vines rooted in iron-rich soils that give the wine its depth and character. Métrat farms with a light hand, favouring traditional methods and minimal intervention to let site and vintage speak clearly.
The 2022 opens with ripe red and dark berry fruit, a gentle floral lift and a savoury, earthy undertone typical of Morgon. On the palate it’s structured yet fluid, with fresh acidity and fine tannins that give shape without weight. There’s a seriousness here, but also generosity, a wine that grows more interesting with food rather than demanding attention on its own.
Bernard Métrat’s approach is all about patience and balance: careful farming, thoughtful élevage and respect for Gamay’s ability to reflect place. The result is a Morgon that feels authentic
